Performances are just the icing on the cake. In 2015, we launched Connect with Uganda, a unique opportunity for our international colleagues and friends to make global connections with our troupe of performers and our schools. You can now host Suubi music in K-12 schools, colleges or universities.
Suubi music offers tailor-made residency programs for our international partners, including:
Drumming and African instrument workshops;
Spoken word series;
Information sessions about Uganda (history, culture, etc.);
Panel discussions and debates;
Shared lunches and classroom visits.
The Company can conduct a school day visit only (7am-2pm) or combine in-school activities with a school-community performance in the evening (Noon-8:30pm) so that parents and community members can participate as well.
School Day (7am-2pm) 8am: Suubi music arrives at the school for load in and sound check. Breakfast provided back- stage. 10am – 11:30am: 50-minute performance followed by a 20-minute Q &ANoon-1pm: Lunch (provided by host school): Company members meet and talk with groups of students and teachers during the meal. 1-2pm:Classroom visits can be devised for a wide range of courses from social studies to music.
In-School & Community Noon-1pm:Lunch (provided by host school): Company members meet and talk with groups of students and teachers during the meal.
(Noon – 8:30pm) 1-2pm:Classroom visits can be devised for a wide range of courses from social studies to music. 3-6pm load-in and sound check in the performance space. Dinner backstage (provided by host school). 7-8:30pm: 50-minute performance followed by a meet and greet in the lobby.
Requirements and assumptions
We request that schools assign a coordinating team to support to lead the troupe around the school through out the day. For the performance: a theater, auditorium or other appropriate space with dressing rooms or changing space nearby is required. Gymnasiums can work, but are not preferred. Minimum performance space of 25’ x 30’. General stage lighting is needed.

Fee: $5000.00 plus meals (breakfast and lunch or lunch and dinner) for 30 people and two cases of bottled water (for the performance). On-site parking for the company’s 25-passenger coach bus is also required. This fee underwrites the company’s direct costs of the day and also supports Suubi’s programs in Uganda.
